Living in Las Terrenas
A village with mixed communities
Europeans looking for an affordable Caribbean getaway discovered Las Terrenas in the 1970s. Today, Las Terrenas is a vibrant international community with residents from all over the world. Thanks to this eclectic population, you’ll find European food in the supermarkets, as well as excellent international restaurants.
Modernisation of infrastructure
Many European developers, attracted to this particular part of the Caribbean, have improved the quality of construction. These are experienced developers who can boast of a proven track record. This can be seen in the interior finishes. For example, the tiles, countertops, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets and general furnishings are contemporary and Euro-chic.
The first expatriates in this corner of the Caribbean had to deal with a total lack of infrastructure. This is no longer the case today. The most important infrastructure development in the region took place in 2009 with the Samaná-Santo Domingo highway. It used to take 4-6 hours to get from the capital to Las Terrenas.
-Thanks to the new highway Las Terrenas is connected to Santo Domingo in only 2 hours.
